First Date Fiasco

3 strikes you are out.

The mindset I had when Mr. Cramer asked me to go to our middle school’s baseball game.

He coached track and I was always working after school to try and stay ahead of the game with lessons, grades, and all things new with this teaching gig.

The baseball team had a game later, so Mr. Cramer asked. I was going to go anyway to cheer on my students.

A few minutes before I head out I heard that the game was cancelled.

Strike 1.

That did not stop the eagar Mr. Cramer.

“That game might have cancelled but we can totally hit a Phillies game, you in?”

Who would turn down a Phillies game?

“Sure.”

Turns out…Phillies were not playing that evening.

Strike 2.

This Cramer guy still kept trying….

“Ok well the Riversharks always seem to be playing and if we were going to go to Philly we could go to Camden…”

“It is really okay we don’t need to go to a game. It is what it is.”

He was looking at all these options as I was telling him not to worry about going to a game and to essentially stop looking.

“Well. Riversharks aren’t playing either and neither are Trenton Thunder….and the Blue Claws are also not playing….”

Strike 3, 4, & 5.

By this time I was completely fine with this idea not happening. What was a school game right down the road for me to cheer on my students turned into a real life performance Groundhogs Day.

So when he started suggesting ANOTHER thing to do I that night…well, I don’t remember what I said but I think it went something like this…

“Really. You are still trying. Just let it go - we have work tomorrow and I have lessons to plan.”

Turns out that night was $5 movie night and the movie 42 just came out.

(Side note. I don’t like going out to the movies. Too much money, the new seats skeeve me out, and you can’t press pause when you need a snack.)

I don’t know if I actually wanted to go or just felt bad for this guy about to hit strike 6.

I agreed and figured I could afford $5.

(This is where the hubs would stop and say he was trying to be fun and baseball like because of our the original idea 5 strikes ago and wore his Phillies jersey…if you haven’t seen that movie the Phillies were not the nice team.)

At the end of the day we ended up “seeing something baseball related”. And don’t worry we did eventually get to a REAL baseball game.

It is easy to call it after 5 strikes but if you want your everyday adventure to happen then you will modify and adjust as you need to to make it happen. If you want to spend time with the people in your life you will figure out a way to make to happen.
